Last Meal

It's been something that we have been talking about more and more, my girlfriend and I, is our upcoming last meal. Food supplies have been dwindling in the house as we let the food that isn't from within the 100 mile zone run out in preparation of probably one of the hardest goals on my UBBT list. The 100 mile diet.

The premise is simple starting April 1st for 100 days no food that has been grown or produced 100 miles from where you live. It really does sound simple until you actually think about it and realize how much food travels to get to your plate.

Once you think about how far your food travels think about how little you know about the whole food process in general. Those cryptic ingredients on your food packaging that to the conditions of your cow before it went to slaughter are all things that we have learned to just push to the back of our minds.

As for our last meal we have settled on a restaurant that uses all organic and mostly local ingredients might as well start off right

  1. This is a fantastic project Mr. Janzen. CBC covered a couple in Edmonton who completed this challenge for year. It definitely was not easy. The sobering thing about this whole ideal is that Edmonton has annexed so much farmland for development that the region no longer has the ability to support its current population with locally grown food. Therefore if 100% of us took this challenge, some of us would have to starve.
